The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which officially opened on November 26, is a 109-kilometer long expressway that will connect the country's road and rail networks. The first phase of the project, which cost $16.5 billion, has already been completed and is expected to reduce traffic at Ahmedabad Airport.

All eyes are on the 109 km long Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway now that phase 1 of the much anticipated Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has officially opened. By January 2024, India's first high-speed multimodal corridor that connects the country's road and rail networks should be completed.

The first greenfield smart city in India is now being created in Dholera, a quiet hamlet in Gujarat until recently. The new smart city has been developed such that it will be connected by all forms of transportation, including highways, the metro, ports, and airports.

Dholera has already attracted the interest of investors and is now a member of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). An additional brand-new, cutting-edge airport is being built 80 kilometres from Ahmedabad. This would reduce traffic at Ahmedabad Airport, which is currently crowded.

The almost 1220 km long Amritsar-Jamanagar Expressway would be another attraction in addition to the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway. Once finished, it would be the second-longest motorway in the nation, linking refineries at Amritsar, Bhatinda, Bikaner, Sangaria, Sanchore, Samakhiyali, and Jamnagar, as well as major economic centres in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

"Construction work for this is going on as per plan. A stretch will be ready for use as well" a person familiar with the project told India Narrative.

S&P Global in a report published in 2016 said that India's ambition of sustaining its relatively high growth depends on one important factor: infrastructure.

"The country, however, is plagued with a weak infrastructure incapable of meeting the needs of a growing economy and growing population," it said.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is the biggest project undertaken by the National Highway Authority of India, connecting the national capital with the country's financial capital will be vital as the country presses the pedal on economic growth rate.
